3/24 OBST Weekly Newsletter

Happy Monday, makos!

I hope y'all enjoyed the weekend after a busy Friday night in the water. We had a pretty solid meet. We had 63 individual events and 37 of them were best times! I know our swimmers were exhausted on a Friday, but they still showed up to perform their best. As I mentioned to a few, it's not strictly about the time. Sometimes how you execute a race and do well outshines the overall result. We reflect and learn from every swim!

As a coach, I definitely picked up on the skills we need to focus on. We definitely need more confidence on our backs and our turns overall. Diving will come... it's just been a bit chilly to be in and out of the water. The warmer weather is just within grasp!

With that said, congrats OBST on a third overall team finish and a  special shoutout to our lady makos on a second place finish! Results are attached. I will have ribbons to pass out later this week.

REMINDER: Tuesday, April 1st at 8 a.m., registration will open for the summer swim season. We are capping swimmers this year to allow us to appropriately manage lane space and safety. I personally prefer to have 4-5 kids per lane. Practices will begin on May 27th and conclude on July 25th. If you would like to see the summer meet schedule, it is already published on SwimTopia.

OFFICIALS/VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: In order to host meets at our pool, we need to have officials and volunteers. We need at least 3-4 stroke & turn level officials to move forward and someone to run the console. There is online training that is required and the city will offer a pay incentive. This is a big deal! Let's give our swimmers the opportunity to compete at home and still acquire USAS times/cuts.

If you are interested, please e-mail me ([email protected]) and I will assist in getting the process started.

P.S. If anyone captured some moments in time this past Friday, please share photos! I would love to compile images for an end of year slideshow during our summer banquet.

Best,

Coach Dakota
