3/31 OBST Weekly Newsletter

Happy Monday, OBST!

First order of business... Tomorrow is April 1st! That means registration is open for all things summer and swimming online (orangebeachal.gov/aquatics) at 8 a.m. SHARP for Orange Beach residents. From swim lessons to swim team, you can filter your options and select "aquatics," once logged into your ActiveNet account, to more seamlessly find our programs. Registration goes QUICKLY and space is limited, so I advise you all to set an alarm to claim your child(ren) a spot for any aquatics activities. Registration will open to the public on 4/8.

In terms of OBST, if you are unsure as to which group your athlete should be registered for, please don't hesitate to reach out to me. All summer scheduling, including swim meets, are posted on SwimTopia and available on the city website, of course.

Practice on Wednesday, 4/2 will be cancelled for all groups. There is a town hall meeting that evening in which all full-time employees are of course encouraged to be present for. I also didn't want to hold practice in case any families were planning to attend the meeting as well. Hopefully, we will hear some discussion about future aquatics projects (i.e. new pool)!

I really would like to run a practice intrasquad meet to prepare our swim families, staff, and facility for hosting meets in the future. Our pool is pretty heavily programmed in April with lifeguard preparation and recertification. Most of those courses are held on the weekends. I would like to throw out the possibility of hosting a home meet on Thursday, May 1st. This would be the second to last day of our winter/spring season and a great way to cap it off until summer swim begins on Tuesday, May 27th.

With that said... calling all future stroke & turn judges and officials!!! We need the following at least:
- 1-2 admin officials (console operator)
- 1 starter official
- 2-4 stroke & turn judges/referee (only need two at our pool, but just to have back-up in case when we host a meet, someone is unavailable)

The city will pay these positions $30/hour. It's a great little side gig and the best seat in the house to watch your athlete race! This is for our home meets only! If interested, please e-mail me for further details.

Best,
