Parents--

I have had a handful of parents ask about text message notifications recently regarding weather updates and other urgent needs. I like to maintain as many team tools and communication formats to one platform (i.e. SwimTopia), however, I do understand that e-mail notifications are not the most timely when it comes to practice cancellations. SwimTopia's alert system is simply done through e-mail as well unless you have the app's notification settings on. I do know it can be frustrating to consistently e-mail and that SwimTopia does not allow you to communicate back directly... SO, with that said...

You should have received an invitation to join an app called Slack. Please, JOIN HERE:

I know we are all busy and have a zillion different reminder/communication tools between school and other extracurriculars, but Slack is really simple and organized. We've used Remind in the past, but their are limitations there. Slack is a great tool to communicate without sharing your e-mail and/or phone number with everyone on the team as well.

Once you accept the invitation to join, you should automatically be added as a member of Orange Beach Swim Team and additionally the chat channel called "obstmakosbulletin". That will serve as our general news and alerts team-wide chatroom. Additionally, you will be invited to join your swimmer's respective group channel as well (i.e. #obstblue, #obstorange, #obstjunior, and #obstsenior).

We will still utilize SwimTopia for our weekly newsletter distribution, roster data, swim meet confirmation, etc. So please hold onto that app/login. Slack will primarily be for urgent/direct needs.

Of course, all my doors are open for you: e-mail, phone, Slack, etc. I am available for you. I just want to make this easier for parents and our busy lives.
